I've been there too. You’re not alone

Social anxiety doesn’t just affect your thoughts — it affects your nervous system.

Social anxiety can make your whole system feel tense, on edge, self-conscious, and constantly alert around others. That’s why it can feel so hard to simply “relax” or be yourself.

What’s Really Happening

Your nervous system is likely stuck on high alert around people.

When your system perceives social situations as threatening—whether due to past experiences or learned patterns—it activates the body’s fight-or-flight response.

This response is meant to protect you. But when the nervous system becomes stuck in this state around people, social interactions can feel overwhelming or exhausting.

Over time, your body may stay on high alert in social situations even when there is no real danger.

Is it your fault?

It’s not your fault.

Social anxiety is not simply a matter of confidence or thinking the wrong thoughts. It often reflects how your nervous system has adapted to stress or past social experiences.

Our nervous system generally moves between three primary states:
  • Fight / Flight – anxiety, hyper-alertness, fear of judgment
  • Freeze – shutting down, avoiding interaction, feeling blank
  • Safety & Connection – calm presence, natural social engagement

Social anxiety often occurs when the nervous system struggles to shift out of fight-or-flight and return to safety and connection when around others.

Somatic therapy works directly with the nervous system to help restore that balance.

What This Work Looks Like

How Somatic Therapy May Look in Session

My approach is practical and grounded in helping your nervous system feel safer around people. Sessions usually include three key elements:

Awareness of Sensations
Learning to notice the physical sensations connected to social anxiety — such as blushing, sweating, tightness in the chest, or tension in the throat. This awareness helps you understand how social anxiety shows up in your body.
Nervous System Regulation
Processing underlying emotions and experiences so your nervous system can shift from a state of alarm into a state of calm and connection.
Mind–Body Integration
Helping your thoughts and body responses begin working together so social interactions start to feel more natural and less threatening.
FUTURE IS YOURS

Your Future Without Social Anxiety

Imagine feeling more relaxed and confident around people. Instead of constantly worrying about how you appear, you can focus on connecting, expressing yourself, and enjoying social interactions. Relationships can begin to feel easier and more natural. Somatic therapy helps your nervous system learn that being around others can feel safe again.
