My background

Early experiences that shaped me

The beginning of my story

I do not want to call my life a struggle or a path of suffering. However, I believe we came to this world to live a life and grow better and stronger under the circumstances we face in life. The journey that brought me to somatic therapy started a long time ago, and that is how the story begins.

Family instability and early responsibility

I was born to a Ukrainian family of a doctor and a business owner. My family went bankrupt when I was three years old, and that created a lot of distress for my family. Financial struggles pushed a lot of parents' traumas up. Unfortunately, a lot of them landed on my brother and me in the form of abuse and emotional neglect.

We also witnessed our parents having mental breakdowns and addictions. Later my parents got divorced, and my brother and I were pushed into a situation where we needed to help our parents communicate, so we took on the role of their “mediators.”

The impact on my inner world

Because of this complicated situation at home as well as in school, I developed a pretty bad depression, social anxiety, and an obsession with figuring out a way to help myself and others.

You can never get enough of what you do not need.

A Turning Point
I remember walking out of my first somatic therapy session thinking:

“This is the solution to my suffering. This is how I can finally let go of the pain and shame I’ve been carrying for so long.”

When I connected to my body in that session, something shifted. I realized that I was not the problem – what had happened to me was the problem.

For the first time, I didn’t feel like I had to fight for safety, rescue my family, or prove anything to anyone. I felt like I was already enough and at peace within myself.

For the first time, I could see that things were different now — that I could relax.

My body could finally exhale.

That moment became a turning point in my life. I became deeply curious about body-based therapy, and within a week I applied to a Master’s program in Somatic Psychotherapy.

Listening to My Body

I began learning how to listen to my emotions, trust my body, and reconnect with myself. I also started relating to others from a different place.

Instead of doing things from fear or a sense of lack, I started living from a place of curiosity and meaning.

Life after inner work

Living with more ease and connection

Right now, after doing all this inner work, I feel like I am a different person. I still have some ups and downs from time to time, but I am not possessed by the feelings like I used to be.

Feelings of shame, depression, social anxiety, and constant overthinking were dramatically decreased. I started to feel more joy for life, I started to notice joy in small things, my motivation quadrupled, and I started to be able to relate and connect with people on a deeper level.

I've been there too. You’re not alone
